Inhalt This seminar examines the variety of approaches and methods in cognitive-linguistic research on English metaphor and metonymy and illustrates a number of key ways in which they can be combined. The focus is on the plethora of areas and aspects to which the analysis of metaphor and metonymy can be fruitfully applied, ranging from lexicology, phraseology and morphology to political and scientific discourse, social media communication, cross-cultural variation and the expression of emotions. Students have the opportunity to conduct their own empirical research on a topic of their choice. Part of our class time is dedicated to providing you with the skills and methods you need for successful empirical work.
Lernziele At the end of this seminar students

- are familiar with the most thriving paradigms in metaphor and metonymy research
- have an overview of the variety of areas and topics to which the study of metaphor and metonymy can be applied
- have gained experience in conducting their own empirical research

Teilnahmebedingungen This course is open to students of English who have passed all three BA introductory modules and to MA students of English and MSG Sprache und Kommunikation.
