| Inhalt | Papyri found in Egypt provide an unrivalled source of knowledge on ancient Greek Literature since they bear texts that would otherwise be lost, not having been transmitted by medieval sources. This course will explore the benefice of finding these previously lost texts or variants by reading them in their original ancient Greek version. It will illustrate the interest of looking at material aspects of papyri to catch a glimpse on how literature was copied, disseminate and used in Graeco-Roman Egypt. The course will use digital resources and include visit(s) to look at original papyri. We will deal with the most exciting findings, among others Homer, Greek Lyric Poetry, Timotheus, and the Derveni Papyrus. This course is an exemplary model to teach a new, innovative “hard-core philology”. |
| Lernziele | – Improve language skills in Ancient Greek by translating a variety of texts. – Widen your knowledge of Ancient Greek Literature and Culture. – Get an introduction to the transcription and edition of ancient literature on papyri. – Learn more on the transmission of Greek literature from Antiquity to nowadays. – Get an inside on Ancient Culture in its materiality and practical aspects, in particular in Greco-Roman Egypt. – Learn to use relevant online resources. – Improve your knowledge of discussion scholarly material in English. |

| Teilnahmebedingungen | This course requires prior knowledge of Ancient Greek (Graecum or equivalent). Motivated "false beginners" should get in contact with the professors. This course is taught in English; you improve your fluency on a scholarly level. |
