Content Numerical methods for the simulation of acoustic, electromagnetic and elastic wave phenomena.
Finite difference and finite element methods for the numerical solution of
the time-dependent wave equation and the time-harmonic Helmholtz equation.
Numerical methods for wave propagation in unbounded domains: Dirichlet-to-Neumann map,
nonreflecting boundary conditions, perfectly matched layers.
Learning objectives Proficiency in modern numerical methods for the simulation of wave phenomena.

Admission requirements Standard courses in mathematical analysis and linear algebra, such as Analysis I & II, Lineare Algebra,
reelle Analysis, Funktionalanalysis or equivalent.
Some existing (possibly applied, from physics etc) knowledge of PDE's is assumed.
Standard courses in numerical analysis, such as Einf. in die Numerik, Numerik der Diff.-Gl.
Working knowledge in one programming language such as Matlab or Python.
