71046-01 - Lecture: Kinetic Theory 2 CP

Semester spring semester 2024
Course frequency Irregular
Lecturers Nikolai Leopold (nikolai.leopold@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content Kinetic equations are nonlinear partial differential equations that are applied in statistical physics to describe a large number of objects by their statistical distribution. This lecture provides an introduction to the mathematical analysis of kinetic equations, with a focus on the Vlasov equation.
Bibliography 1. François Golse: Lecture notes "Mean Field Kinetic Equations" (2013).
2. Robert T. Glassey.: The Cauchy problem in kinetic theory. Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), Philadelphia, PA (1996).
